Our first public presentation of Variable Geometry Columns was at Pittcon 2012. This work focused on 10-m/0.25 mm ID columns with both uniform and varied film thicknesses. We demonstrated the advantages of variable stationary phase thickness over conventional (uniform thickness) OTCs by separating a diagnostic mixture of n-alkanes. To test the VGCs with real-world samples, we then separated several kerosene-based fuel mixtures with record-breaking resolution and speed for this dimension column.
